Horizon cherry pickers rocking it up at the Download Festival

By Vicki Crowe, Horizon Platforms Account manager

I’ve never been to the famous Download Festival at Donington Park, but I’m proud to say that some of our cherry pickers made their debut there this year!

Download – the UK’s increasingly popular five-day rock festival – took place over a long June weekend with well-known headliners, Slipknot, Muse and Kiss taking to the stage on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Horizon plays its part in the creation of the Airbus A350

By Vicki Crowe, Account Manager for Horizon Platforms

There is no doubt that the whole is generally greater than the sum of its parts – especially when it comes to the creation of something as awe-inspiring as the Airbus A350 – but I do think it’s important sometimes to pause and reflect on just how many different ‘parts’ – both people and machines – are involved in the creation of the finished product.

Horizon Platforms is just one of hundreds of companies involved in helping Airbus create its latest, greenest and most advanced aircraft – the A350 XWB.

Why keeping Westfield Bradford on track is crucial

Thursday, March 19th, 2015

westfield13 1When you take its history into account, it’s vital that progress on the £260m Westfield Shopping Centre development in Bradford City Centre stays on track and on budget. This is, of course, true for any building project, but none more so than in the case of Westfield Bradford.

The impact of recession hit the Bradford development hard. With its well-publicised delays, “gaping hole in the ground” headlines and problems securing tenants, the project and its developers experienced a rocky ride to say the least. Thankfully, the tide has now turned.

A full decade after demolition of buildings on this prime city centre retail site first started, building work began – as did the involvement of Horizon Platforms with the project.

Why quality work at height platforms and reliable delivery is key

Since January 2014, excellent progress has been made on the 550,000 sq ft two-level mall. Steelworks are in place, cladding is going up, floors are being laid and the roof is on. (more…)

Battery Powered ES Scissor Lift Range

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

As Senior Service Engineer at Horizon Platforms I was involved in the recent decision to expand our fleet with the addition of the JLG ES battery powered scissor range.  We chose the ES range due to the exceptional, class leading battery life and operator friendly control systems.

The class leading battery life is achieved by JLG using their direct drive system, using electric motors to drive the wheels directly.  This is an energy efficient way to power the drive system as no energy is lost in heat.  Converting power from an electric motor into hydraulic power via a pump as done by other manufacturers is less efficient, resulting in decreased battery life.

Also this system minimises the risk of hydraulic leaks as the ES range only has two hydraulic hoses on the whole machine to operate the steering.  This along with zero emissions makes the ES the ideal Access Platform for food manufacturing environments, along with large fit out contracts for Electrical, Heat & Vent any many other trades.

Once our customers experience the difference, they insist on using JLG ES Scissor Lifts on every job!
