£3million investment to support Horizon growth plan

ben£3million investment supports Horizon growth plan

By Ben Hirst, Managing Director

As part of Horizon Platforms’ commitment to quality and safety, I’m delighted to announce a £3million investment to support our ambitious five-year growth plan.

By far the largest proportion of the money – a £2.2million capital injection – will pay for new equipment to expand our existing 700 strong hire fleet and ensure customers have even more quality access platforms to choose from. An additional 160 new specialist powered access platforms – cherry pickers, scissor lifts and personnel lifts – are being brought on board, primarily for use in the indoor maintenance and installation sector.

A further half a million investment in our people will pay for an extra 15 members of staff to support the planned growth by ensuring all our customers continue to benefit from the excellent levels of service they enjoy.  A new team of Relationship Support Managers is already in place and more are being recruited to act as a single point of contact for clients. Our operational team is also being strengthened to ensure delivery and breakdown response rates are further improved. (more…)

Plans to introduce IPAF training online | e-learning

Monday, June 22nd, 2015

training-imageCautious welcome for IPAF training online – but more details needed

By Ben Hirst, Managing Director

Moves to introduce an IPAF training module online could prove a real boost to safe work at height practices as long as safety – not profit – is the driving force behind the planned changes.

If an e-learning option from IPAF means customers get more time for the practical elements of MEWPS training – the hands-on, up in the air, learn as you do bits – and more rigorous, flexible and convenient training that improves site safety, then it’s a no-brainer.

IPAF online training opens up alternative methods of delivering education. It has the potential to take work at height training to a new level and could mean training centres like our own in Warrington and Wakefield could reach even greater numbers.

It’s important to highlight that this type of e-learning is designed to enhance, not replace, practical at height training. On completion of the online module, trainees would still need to attend an IPAF-approved training centre where they would take the practical element of the training in the form of a half day-long course. Winter Work

Monday, November 11th, 2013

Winter is another busy period for us at Horizon Platforms.  Despite the most obvious being the putting up of Christmas decorations, it is also the time of year when our customers need machines (often on a short term hire) to repair or maintain their premises whilst other work is quieter.

Common jobs include:

Repairing/replacing lights

Heater installations

Carpark lighting

Roof repairs

Removal of leaves from guttering

Window/signage cleaning

So whether you have the duty of putting the fairy on a oversized Christmas tree in a busy town centre, or scooping autumn leaves from a gutter of a penthouse apartment, we have the access platform for you.

If you would like a free site survey please call us direct on 0870 0710 007.

Is it safe to use my Access Platform in windy weather?

Monday, October 28th, 2013

Every machine has different restrictions and limitations when it comes to wind speed.

With weather conditions hitting hurricane levels in parts of the UK this week, the last place you should be in these particular conditions, is in a cherry picker or scissor lift meters from the ground.  Outdoor machines are all rated to specific wind speeds which are stated in the operators manual and usually on a decal close to the control box.  Sometimes access platforms have varying restrictions dependent on the number of persons and quantity of tools in the basket, as well as when working indoors.

In any instance where you are working at height on an access platform, you should always familiarise yourself with the machine prior to use, take note of the site conditions, use an anemometer and if you are in doubt call us.  We are always on hand for any queries you may have regarding the safe use of Access Platforms, as your safety is our priority.

Now that’s what I call Nifty!

Monday, July 8th, 2013

Luke Jones - Horizon PlatformsHorizon Platforms have invested heavily (yet again!), in new equipment this year, with a large sum being spent on a particular range of products.  I’m sure you are all aware that at one point or another you have tried to hire or have hired one of the NiftyLift range of booms.  The product itself is revolutionary for warehousing, industrial and also construction work.

All of the equipment we purchase from NiftyLift is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.  Machines also have non-marking tyres as well as a huge outreach and the NiftyLift trade mark narrow machine width.  I think we can all agree that that this investment is money well spent.  The substantial order will give Horizon Platforms the breathing room it often requires to meet customers’ demands, along with allowing us to be able to satisfy more orders at the high level of customer service you have all come to expect.

I have no doubt that I will be taking a look at the new machines as they arrive, and also checking out the Anti-entrapment device which has been fitted to each of the machines (HR15NDEHR17NDE and HR21 Hybrid).  I need to be quick if I don’t want to miss out on a viewing of the brand new machines though, as demand is high and I am sure the machines will be out on hire as fast as they come in.

Clean Environment? Clean Machine!

Friday, June 28th, 2013

Powered access equipment has traditionally been used for heavy construction work and other similar industries.  However, since the introduction of the Work at Height Regulations, MEWP’s have been in more demand for other sectors such as hospitals, warehousing and manufacturing.

Contractors working in clean environments will know how important it is to have equipment in excellent working order.  It is also imperative that the machines are spotless and free of any contamination.

Luckily for our customers, Horizon Platforms are fully equipped for hires in these environments. With the average age of our fleet being less than 3 years old, and the type of equipment we run – we should definitely be your number one choice for powered access rental for those demanding sites.

We also offer additional ways to avoid any contamination, such as wheel covers and nappies/drip trays.

If you have a contract coming up for a clean site, or if you have an ongoing requirement  – please get in touch with us.  We are happy to discuss your needs and come up with  the right solution for you.

Horizon Platforms aren’t so Shameless!

Thursday, May 30th, 2013

Horizon Platforms said a fond farewell and thank you for the support of the Shameless TV production company as it filmed for the last ever series.

Horizon Platforms had the pleasure of supplying them a JLG M450AJ over several series of the popular Channel 4 show.

The boom lift was extremely popular for the aerial shots as well as for assembling props and the set.

Filmed and based in Manchester, the show was in it’s 10th series before deciding to finish in style.

Horizon have been popular with TV production companies in the past and have the reputation of providing smooth and reliable machines ideal for filming tricky arial shots.

We have been reliably informed the final series definately allows the popular programme to finish on a high, and not just from the use of our 45ft access platform!

Horizon receives a 450AJ with a difference!

Monday, May 20th, 2013

Horizon Platforms have received our first JLG 450AJ with Skyguard. The machine is fitted with a system that automatically stops the machine if pressure is applied to a bar across the control box area. On activation, the machine will then do the opposite action to the last operation. In the event of crushing, this will then release the operator as soon as the impact has occurred.

The machine will be run alongside the present crush protection accessories and other safety features Horizon already provide inc. Nifty’s SIOPS and Sanctuary Zone.

Each option has various benefits dependent on its application, but with each of these options in Horizon’s arsenal, we can resolve any situation.
