The IPAF PAL+ training course is an additional day of category-specific MEWP training aimed at operators working in higher-risk or challenging work-at-height environments. To ensure maximum safety in higher risk scenarios, operators can select a more advanced and extensive training through this one-day PAL+ course and ensure that they get the guidance they need regarding the correct use and inspection of safety harnesses.
IPAF's well-recognised Powered Access Licence (PAL) operator course is certified to the international standard ISO 18878. The PAL operator course meets all requirements for basic operator training.
The price per delegate starts at £250.00 + VAT.
Upon successful completion of the theory test, practical test and interview, operators will have the relevant MEWP categories added to their PAL card, such as:
The added "+" qualification on the PAL card is proof that the cardholder has successfully demonstrated his/her ability to operate powered access equipment safely and effectively in challenging work environments.
Our IPAF+ courses feature encompassing course content that ensures candidates have everything they need to work safely.
Every candidate studying the IPAF PAL+ course must bring and wear the following safety equipment when conducting in-person practical training:
Please note that this course is for advanced operators only and can only be taken at an IPAF Centre.
An IPAF PAL+ licence is achieved once the candidate has completed the IPAF PAL+ course, which can only be taken in addition to an operator's training course and licence. The training, designed for those who need to learn additional skills to work in higher-intensity environments, consists of a theory session and practical training on the use of large machinery, such as access platforms which operate at the average working height of around 10m to 15m.
Specifics of the course include testing the candidate on their ability to operate access platforms in tight spaces and navigating challenging terrain. Once each unit of training has been completed, the candidate will be assessed, having to complete a theory test, a practical test and a personal interview.

The IPAF PAL+ qualification is only valid for five years after which the delegate must renew their license.
It is crucial, however, that to renew their PAL+, the candidate must complete their log books across the five years in which they hold the licence. If the candidate hasn’t done this, they will need to retake and pass the full course in order to once again obtain a valid IPAF PAL+ licence.
